ASHGABAT, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations (UN) adopted a draft declaration on Friday to provide a "renewed, action-oriented" framework to help landlocked developing countries achieve sustainable development.
At the third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, world leaders adopted the "Draft Awaza Political Declaration," welcoming the Awaza Programme of Action that pledges to set up regional agricultural research hubs, form a high-level panel on freedom of transit, and explore creating an infrastructure investment finance facility for landlocked nations.
"We now have a bold and practical blueprint" that sets out a clear vision for the path ahead, said Rabab Fatima, a high representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States.
Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov said it is time to "shift from agreement to implementation," noting that the success of the Awaza Programme of Action depends on the "collective resolve to ensure policy coherence, resource mobilization and effective monitoring of the commitments we have made."
The conference was held in Turkmenistan's National Tourist Zone of Awaza from Tuesday to Friday, under the theme "Driving progress through partnerships." ■
