CHENGDU, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- After an Olympic-level final at The World Games on Monday, the U.S. women's lacrosse team voiced confidence in winning gold at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Dominating from the start, the United States built a 7-3 lead over Canada in the first quarter and extended it to 10-4 by halftime.

Canada mounted counterattacks in the second half, but the U.S. goalkeeper held firm, limiting the Canadians to one goal in the third quarter. The Americans sealed a 16-8 victory, with eight players scoring and Cassidy Weeks netting four goals.

The win extends the United States' dominance over Canada in major events, echoing its 2024 World Box Lacrosse Championship triumph. With lacrosse set for its Olympic debut in Los Angeles, the World Games title cements the Americans as favorites.

"I think this is definitely going to be a huge step for us, it definitely gives us some confidence aiming at the Olympics in the next few years," Weeks said.

"Usually we trained on our own a lot, but we'll definitely try and get together more, especially before the Olympics and have a lot of practice for it," Weeks added. ■
