DANDONG, China, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Jiangsu and Hubei powered to their second straight victories in Group A of China's 15th National Games women's basketball qualifiers here on Monday.
Seven players scored in double figures as Jiangsu overwhelmed Shanxi 105-44, while Hubei continued its momentum for a 116-46 win over Heilongjiang.
National team forward Luo Xinyu opened Jiangsu's scoring account with a 3-pointer, as Jiangsu surged to a 14-2 lead at the opening stages.
After sitting out Sunday's loss to Sichuan, Zhai Ruoyun returned to the Shanxi lineup, while facing suffocating defense for a 10-point performance on three-of-eight shooting.
Trailing 64-24 at halftime, Shanxi failed to muster enough comeback efforts against a well-rotated Jiangsu side, which was led by guard Zhang Manman's 18 points. Center Xu Chenyan kept a perfect shooting record on seven attempts for 17 points.
Jiangsu will face the toughest challenge against a star-studded Sichuan side, which features nine Chinese internationals with the experience of being selected in the national team's training camp.
Speaking of the highly rated duel on Tuesday, Jiangsu player-coach Chen Xiaojia told Xinhua that her team "has nothing to lose."
"We will approach this game with a learning attitude and go all out to challenge them. We only care about the process, not the outcome," she said.
Hubei's fast-paced game paid dividends, as it outscored Heilongjiang 44-6 on points off turnovers.
Liu Bei, one of the two flag bearers for China at the opening ceremony of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games held last month, spearheaded Hubei's balanced attack, which saw five players score at least 15 points, including Liu's 25.
Shanghai outplayed Xinjiang 97-45, with Zhang Zhiting leading the way with 21 points.
In Group B, Hebei cruised past Tianjin 86-63, Shandong dominated Henan 83-44, and Beijing overcame Zhejiang 87-67. ■
