NEW DELHI, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Tesla, an American multinational automotive and clean energy company, opened its second showroom in India on Monday.

The showroom was opened at Worldmark 3 in Aerocity of India's capital, New Delhi.

"The Aerocity location marks the company's first outlet in the country's national capital and second in the entire country," a company official said.

Last month, Tesla formally marked its entry into India's electric vehicle (EV) market with the opening of its first showroom at Maker Maxity Mall in Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai, India's financial capital.

Reports said Tesla plans to expand its supercharging network in Delhi-National Capital Region, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, and start deliveries in India by September.

The carmaker so far is not considering building a factory to manufacture vehicles in India.

As of now, Tesla will only sell its Model Y SUVs in India, with plans to expand to other models as sales increase.

Last month, the company revealed the prices for its electric vehicles, with the Model Y's on-road price of rear-wheel drive listed at 71,149 U.S. dollars and its long-range variant listed at 80,583 dollars.

Auto experts say Tesla will compete mainly with German luxury giants such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz, rather than domestic mass-market EV players such as Tata Motors and Mahindra. ■
