TEHRAN, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. participation in Israel's attack against Iran has eroded Tehran's trust in Washington to "below zero," said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei on Monday.
He made the remarks when responding to a question about Iran's preconditions for the resumption of nuclear negotiations with the United States at a weekly press conference.
"We have no trust in the United States ... Israel's attack on Iran amid the (indirect Iran-U.S.) negotiations and the U.S. participation in the attack later have basically left no room for having even zero trust (in Washington)," Baghaei said.
He noted that Iran had not made any decision yet about the resumption of negotiations with the United States, noting that talks and exchange of messages between the two sides continued through mediators.
Baghaei also condemned U.S. sanctions, saying it has weakened international rules and regulations in the area of free trade.
On June 13, two days prior to the sixth round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, Israel launched major airstrikes on several areas in Iran, including nuclear and military sites, killing senior commanders, nuclear scientists and many civilians. Iran responded with multiple waves of missile and drone attacks on Israel.
On June 22, U.S. forces bombed the three Iranian nuclear facilities of Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. In retaliation, Iran struck the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
Following the 12-day war, a ceasefire between Iran and Israel was achieved on June 24. ■
