RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Botafogo has completed the signing of former Barcelona goalkeeper Neto on a free transfer, the Brazilian Serie A club said on Monday.
The 36-year-old agreed to a two-year deal after parting ways with Bournemouth by mutual consent.
"I'm very happy to be part of this project and this gigantic club," Neto told reporters during his official presentation. "I hope I can help and contribute. I'm available to help in any way I can."
Neto, who has one Brazil cap, made 63 appearances across all competitions for Bournemouth following his 2022 move from Barcelona. He spent last season on loan at Arsenal, where he played just one match.
He said he was motivated by the chance to help Botafogo extend its recent run of success, which includes last year's Brazilian Serie A and Copa Libertadores titles.
"I'm coming to be part of Botafogo, part of the incredible project that's being built," Neto said. "In big projects and clubs, the level is extremely high. I've had the opportunity to be in other locker rooms with top-level players and it will be no different here. I hope to be able to contribute."
Neto will follow in the footsteps of his father, Norberto Antonio Muraro, who played with the Rio de Janeiro club in the early 1980s.
"Sometimes I stop to think about how life and its paths always lead us in the right direction," he said. "More than 40 years ago, my father had the honor of wearing this shirt. Now it is my turn to follow his lead and write my own story here. I carry enormous pride for him and for Botafogo." ■
