YAOUNDE, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's women's U20 national volleyball team won at the African Women's U20 Volleyball Championship on Monday with a 3-1 victory over Cameroon in the final in Yaounde, capital of Cameroon.
Kenya took the match with set scores of 26-24, 19-25, 28-26, 25-16. The visitors narrowly claimed the first set, but Cameroon responded strongly in the second.
Although the hosts led for much of the third set, Kenya staged an impressive comeback to take the set and carried the momentum into the fourth to seal the win.
Kenya head coach Jackline Barasa and several players were moved to tears after the final whistle at the Yaounde Sports Complex.
Barasa described the match as "impressive." "We are extremely happy. Cameroon played well and we congratulate them for such a fierce match," she told reporters.
Both Cameroon and Kenya had already secured qualification for the 2026 FIVB U20 World Championship. ■
