RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Gabriel Taliari and Matheus Babi scored either side of half time as Juventude edged to a 2-1 home win over Corinthians in Brazil's Serie A on Monday.
Gabriel Taliari put the hosts ahead just before the half hour with a diving header after Marcelo Hermes' cross.
Matheus Babi doubled the advantage by taking a touch to control Nene's cross before turning and shooting in the same motion to leave goalkeeper Hugo Souza with no chance.
Corinthians were reduced to 10 men in the 85th minute when Angel Romero was shown a straight red card for violent conduct.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, the visitors pulled a goal back five minutes later through Matheuzinho, who curled a free-kick into the top-right corner.
Juventude survived a tense final 10 minutes to secure its fourth win of the campaign. The team from southern Brazil remains 19th in the 20-team top flight standings while Corinthians are 13th, having extended their winless Serie A run to five games. ■
