JAKARTA, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Peruvian President Dina Boluarte witnessed the signing and exchange of the Indonesia-Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in Jakarta on Monday.
"I warmly welcome the signing of the Indonesia-Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. This agreement will expand market access and boost trade, and marks a historic achievement as the negotiations were completed within 14 months," Prabowo said at a press conference.
Boluarte's visit to Indonesia coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and marks the first visit by a Peruvian president since formal ties were established in 1975.
The two countries also agreed to strengthen cooperation in combating narcotics, tackling illegal trade, and in the fields of food, mining, energy transition, fisheries, and defence.
Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia's support for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-Peru partnership, praising Peru's leadership in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation 2024.
Boluarte described Indonesia as an important partner in Southeast Asia and Peru's sixth-largest trading partner in Asia, with the CEPA expected to boost trade in goods, investment, and other sectors.
She announced Peru's access to export blueberries to Indonesia, following products such as quinoa and grapes, and expressed hope for easier entry of other fruits such as pomegranates.
Boluarte invited Indonesian investors to participate in infrastructure and logistics projects in Peru, while reaffirming her commitment to deepening cooperation for the advancement of both nations. ■
